The blade
Up to 80% less effort than a standard shovel.
A regular spade meets the soil with its full width at once. The spear point concentrates that same effort into one place.

Our story
Spear Head Spade began with Daniel Mathieu, a gardener in Windsor, Connecticut. Two artificial knees and two artificial hips had made digging painful enough to end his favorite hobby. Rather than give it up, he set out to design a better blade, and with his son Julien, an engineer, he earned two patents on it.
A blade that slips into hard ground instead of fighting it.
Today Spear Head Spade is Glorious Outdoors LLC, a family business 15 years on, and every order is hand-packed in New Jersey. In 2025, Better Homes and Gardens named it Best Shovel and Spade.
