SO GRATEFUL

4/9/26

I live in the land of clay, rocks, and roots. Today I used this shovel for the first time and almost wept with joy, digging a hole for my new tree. I've never seen anything like it, on this property. For 40 years I've used a shovel I bought used at a yard sale and never thought about how it might be valuable to upgrade my tools--not too bright, I know. I recommend this for young people who are just starting out in the garden--a life changer! And I recommend this for older people who might just need a new and better tool. I have now purchased a second one to give to my son.

You might just have this for the rest of your life

Over the years I've spent probably too much time digging in Ohio where in my area most of the ground is very hard clay. I was always sharpening my shovels with my grinder which made things a little easier. But in my mind I always thought there has to be a better shovel out there with a different design. Then I came across an advertisement for spearheadspade.com I bought one with my credit card from an employee of Spear Head. I had some questions which he gladly answered. It was nice to talk to someone directly from the company. I'm at my wits end talking to people in far away places who are hard to understand, Well, the spearhead has replaced my other 9 shovels. I've dug holes for trees, used it in gravel, sand, cut tree roots. Now I take it metal detecting! It's better than the shovels that are just marketed for "Metal Detecting". If you have gotten this far reading my comments that means your serious about looking for a good shovel. I've done a lot of legwork for you! Sounds crazy but you just might have this for the rest of your life.

84 Years Young!

5/13/22

Awesome! My long handle spear head spade is just awesome! I'm 84 years old and had given up planting anything larger than a six inch perennial pot. No more! I tried my spade and ran to the nearest nursery and bought 2 shrubs, dug a hole, and popped them in the ground. Watch out world, this 'old lady' is digging in the dirt again! Thanks for inventing this!

New favorite shovel!

4/1/26

As an older gardener, this new shovel is quickly becoming my favorite. Makes digging out perennials and separating them quick and easy! Would definitely recommend.

Stronger Than Mother Nature

Husband with brawn took my pretty pink shovel for drain tile dig job with a warning from me & jokes from friends. By mid job, guys fighting over pink shovel, shovel survived job & men all want to order one!!. This shovel helped me, a woman in 50's, dig out a cherry tree in 4 hrs!!! Just ordered another to save marriage!

Best shovel ever!

I have purchased six of these shovels to give as gifts to gardener friends & family. I can't say enough about how great this shovel is. I am a 68-year old woman, who still loves to garden. This shovel has allowed me to transplant deeply rooted plants, like daylillies, without a problem. I don't know how I got along without it. Every gardener needs this shovel.

Makes Gardening a Breeze

Love this shovel - extremely sturdy yet lightweight. Makes planting and transplanting an absolute breeze! It's all it promises! I'm 5' 10-1/2" and I have no issues with it - absolutely LOVE it!

Fantastic, I love my spade/shovel.

I dig holes as fast as I can get the spade in the ground. Pushes down so easily with one push of my foot. You will love it. Makes gardening so easy. Was lucky enough to get pink. Fun color for a girl gardener.

I Love This 'Power' Spear Head Spade!

7/16/25

Just wanted to let you know, I love this "power" spear head spade so much, I bought a 2nd one to have on hand for workers who help me. It's the best! I took it to a volunteer project earlier this year and everyone wanted a turn using my Spear Head Spade as it made removal of the invasive species we were targeting so much easier. I advised the project coordinator to buy a few for next year's event. Thanks for this wonderful tool that helps keep this 60 yr old out working in the garden without overtaxing my body

High Performing Tool

8/1/24

I'd like to introduce myself. I am a manager for a poison ivy removal company and invasive species removal. When I found this version of the Spear Head Hoe, I knew right from the start that this tool is for invasive species and poison ivy removal. As I worked in blistering heat on my first day with the spear head hoe, with a field of Japanese mugwort (invasive!) and mixed in with extensive poison ivy, I knew right away how amazing this tool would be for removing roots. All I have to say is, wow. It was 91F out and I barely broke a sweat with a 6 hour work day. By the end of the day I had 1000 square feet of extensive roots out. The soil was completely clean all thanks to the Spear Head Hoe. The spear head is excellent for getting under and loosening roots. I am talking about 100% root removal. That is a game changer out here in the real world. The rake is great for pulling out loosened roots. The sides are sharp as can be, amazing for leveling out the soil after. I give this tool 5 stars. It is quality. If you are dealing with rigorous root systems, this is the tool. Take care of it, don't over stress out the hoe and it will treat you so good. Pair it with the long handle spear head shovel and you will be completely unstoppable in the garden and/or rough invasive landscapes. Thank you for making my job as a field manager more interesting. I'm beyond thankful for Spearhead's innovations to modern day landscaping.

...this one is a wedding gift!

We love our Spear Head Spade so much, this one is a wedding gift! We saw you at the Seattle Flower and Garden show years, and years ago. The Spear Head is my favorite garden tool of all times! Thank you for making it!

Thank you for inventing it!!

I bought my first spearhead spade with the long handle at the 2023 Connecticut flower show. Hands down... This is the best shovel I have ever used in my garden! My house was built on a glacial sand and gravel deposit... We have rocks!!!! Lots and lots of rocks!!! Big rocks and Little rocks!!!! This shovel goes through them like a hot knife through butter!!! I was so impressed with the spearhead spade that I bought two more of them from the spearhead spade people. I gave one to my daughter who is delighted with it!! The next time I see my son he will get his! It'll be a surprise!!! I'm sure that he's going to love it as much as my daughter and I love ours! At Christmas time I plan on sending spearhead spades instead of gift baskets to friends and family who live far away! I highly recommend it to anyone regardless of what kind of terrain that they have! Thank you for inventing it!!

Excellent OMG.

This is the best shovel ever...I am heading up in age and needed to remove some roots. I could not believe how easy they were to get out. Could never have been done with a flat or traditional round shovel. I am looking for more projects to do. Highly recommended.

DESERVES 10 STARS!

Had debated buying this tool for some time, but kept putting it off, it just seemed somewhat over-rated. Looked like Demo was done in potting soil and the grass in my yard is solid. Finally ordered it a week ago. Then, my Lavender shovel came two days early and arrived today, Saturday. FYI. The shovel itself is not heavy, but neither is it light-weight. I had no problem with it, however. So, I tried it out on that old, dried out grass clumping stuff in the back yard, and, wow, perfect! Now I don't have to hire out getting that grass removed. And so easy. This is going to get a lot of use. Can see why this product has so many 5 stars.

Shovel cuts through everything

I bought my shovel at the Philadelphia Flower Show a couple of years back and am so glad I did!! I'm 66 and was thinking my days of digging in the rock hard clay soil of Northern Virginia were over. But this shovel cuts through everything and laughs at the potato sized rocks, I just lever them out: no damage or dings to the tip or edges. The shovel has showed its mettle over the past two seasons and I highly recommend it for gardeners of any age! Carol W.

Thank you Daniel Mathieu.

I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful gentleman at his lovely home few years ago to purchase more of his spades/shovels. My daughter and I were welcomed with warm comforting arms. Words are not enough to express the pleasure I am getting working with the six shovels of different colors I have for myself, digging in my gardens and all over the yard for rocks day after day is a breeze, easy on the back, easy on the knees and comfortable to hold. Because I do not have enough words, I suggest that all who love to use a shovel for any digging should invest in the very best. Proof is using it yourself. My only gift giving is a Spear Head Spade even to those who do not do gardening themselves find pleasure using it. They gave to their gardeners the shovel that keeps on giving. Because of the coronavirus a lot of people turn to gardening. Lumber is sold out at the hardware stores. Add a Spear Head spade/shovel to your garden use. It is the best tool you will ever own. Try it, you will love it as my friends and I do 100%, very happy gardeners. Thank you Mr. Mathieu

FAQ

Which product is best for me?

Our most popular shovel is the SHFD3 (40" with D-grip). It's a great fit for gardeners of all heights and is the right choice for most people looking for a medium-length shovel.

The SHLF2 (58" long handle) is preferred by taller people. Its extra length lets you work more upright without bending over as much, and it gives you greater leverage to pull bigger plants out of the ground.

The SHMini (30") is the lightest member of the family at just 2 lbs. It's ideal for planting bulbs and small pint- and quart-sized plants, and is loved by petite gardeners as well as anyone who wants the lightest shovel possible.

The Spear Head Hoe is a multi-functional garden hoe, "5 tools in one", that lets you weed, mix, furrow, dig and rake with a single tool. Sold out right now; leave your email on its page and we will tell you the moment it is back.

What is the Spear Head Spade made of?

The blade is thick, hardened high carbon manganese steel, beveled and pre-sharpened tip to tail at a 35 degree angle. The handle is steel-reinforced fiberglass with a cushioned grip, built to be leaned on.

How do I keep the blade sharp?

The blade is beveled and pre-sharpened from tip to tail, and the epoxy coating wears away at the cutting edges first, so ordinary digging keeps exposing fresh, sharp steel. If you ever want to touch it up, a few passes with a file or a grinder along the existing bevel bring the edge right back.

What colors do you offer?
  • SHLF2: Yellow
  • SHFD3: Lavender, Red, Yellow
  • SHMini: Yellow
  • Spear Head Hoe: Yellow
How is my order shipped?

Orders are hand-packed in New Jersey and ship in 1 to 2 business days. Delivery typically takes 3 to 5 business days, and shipping is $18 in the contiguous US no matter how many shovels are shipped to the same address.
