Which spade do most people buy?
The 40 inch D-handle. It is a great fit for gardeners of all heights and the right choice for most people looking for a medium length shovel. Taller gardeners often prefer the 58 inch Long handle, which lets you work more upright and gives you more leverage to pull bigger plants out of the ground. The 30 inch Mini is the lightest of the family, ideal for bulbs, pint and quart sized plants, and anyone who wants the lightest spade possible.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Every Spear Head Spade comes with a limited lifetime warranty, a one-time replacement if your tool ever breaks. It covers breakage and defects in normal residential use, for the original purchaser, on tools bought in the US. You pay shipping and handling on the replacement, and we ask for a photo of the broken tool.
Do I ever need to sharpen it?
You should never need to. Each blade is pre-sharpened at the factory to a 35 degree bevel along the entire edge, tip to tail, and the powder coat is designed to wear away gradually so ordinary digging keeps exposing the factory edge. The more you use it, the sharper it gets.
What colors do you offer?
The D-handle comes in Red, Lavender and Teal. The Mini and the Long handle come in Yellow.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is $18 in the contiguous US no matter how many spades ship to the same address. The one exception is the 58 inch Long handle, which ships in a five foot carton that carriers surcharge for length, so it is a flat $25.

The blade
Why the spearhead works
Up to 80% less effort than a standard shovel.
A regular spade meets the soil with its full width at once. The spearhead concentrates that same effort into one place.
- Penetrates first, then slices. The point goes in first, and the sharpened shoulders cut outward as the blade sinks, slicing roots instead of bouncing off them.
- Sharpened tip to tail. The edge is beveled at a 35 degree angle along the whole blade, so every inch cuts.
- Tougher steel. Hardened high carbon manganese steel, 33% thicker and 25% harder than standard shovel steel, so it shrugs off rocks and flexes instead of bending or snapping.
- Stays sharp with use. The coating is designed to wear at the edges first, so ordinary digging keeps exposing fresh, sharpened steel.
