Which product is best for me?
Our most popular shovel is the SHFD3 (40" with D-grip). It's a great fit for gardeners of all heights and is the right choice for most people looking for a medium-length shovel.
The SHLF2 (58" long handle) is preferred by taller people. Its extra length lets you work more upright without bending over as much, and it gives you greater leverage to pull bigger plants out of the ground.
The SHMini (30") is the lightest member of the family at just 2 lbs. It's ideal for planting bulbs and small pint- and quart-sized plants, and is loved by petite gardeners as well as anyone who wants the lightest shovel possible.
The Spear Head Hoe is a multi-functional garden hoe, "5 tools in one", that lets you weed, mix, furrow, dig and rake with a single tool. Sold out right now; leave your email on its page and we will tell you the moment it is back.

Is there a warranty?
Yes. Every Spear Head Spade comes with a limited lifetime warranty, a one-time replacement if your tool ever breaks.
It covers breakage and defects in normal residential use, for the original purchaser, on tools bought in the US. Purchases outside the US go through the retailer you bought from. It does not cover commercial use, abuse, or the powder coat wearing away, which is by design: the coat wears to keep exposing the factory edge. You pay shipping and handling on the replacement, and we ask for a photo of the broken tool. Contact us to start a claim.
What is the Spear Head Spade made of?
The blade is thick, tempered carbon-manganese steel, beveled and pre-sharpened tip to tail at a 35 degree angle. The handle is steel-reinforced fiberglass with a cushioned grip, built to be leaned on.
How do I keep the blade sharp?
You should never need to sharpen it. Each blade is pre-sharpened at the factory to a 35 degree bevel along the entire edge, tip to tail, and the powder coat is designed to wear away gradually so ordinary digging keeps exposing the factory edge. The more you use it, the sharper it gets. The steel is tempered carbon manganese, 33 percent thicker and 25 percent harder than standard shovel stock, so a regular file or grinder will not touch it and it should never be needed.
The Spear Head Hoe is the one exception. Its head is stainless steel, which is softer, so if those edges get nicked by rocks you can run a knife sharpener or file down either long side, working carefully around the flow-through windows. Wear garden gloves if you do.

How is my order shipped?
Orders ship in 1 to 2 business days. Delivery typically takes 3 to 5 business days. Shipping is $18 in the contiguous US no matter how many spades are shipped to the same address. The one exception is the 58 inch Long Handle, which ships in a five foot carton that carriers surcharge for length, so it is a flat $25.

This is BY FAR the best shovel I have ever used. Recently I planted some azaleas beneath a honey locust and encountered some roots about the size of a pencil that the shovel easily cut through. Can't recommend this shovel highly enough. I bought both the regular size and the mini. Extremely satisfied!

That's what we love to hear! One added benefit of our blade is that it actually gets sharper with use. We pre-sharpen the carbon-manganese blade along the entire back edge. As the epoxy powder coating wears off with use, the sharp edge is exposed and cuts better and better!

Hugh I met you at Belle Grove master gardener event in Virginia. (As you were tearing down and purchased a mini spade all you had left) my experience with it in the garden convinced me to go for the works and I ordered all three spades and I’m most likely giving away my shovels. My contractor was helping me today and enjoyed the spade enough that I may have to get him one for a belated birthday. I’m 80 with sciatica and dug several holes for potted trees with my arms and shoulders. Great tool the second mini went to my wife to replace her mini broken shovels. We’re all happy Thank you!
