What is in the set

  • Spear Head Spade SHFD3, 40 inch with D-grip, in red, lavender or teal. The first hybrid spade and shovel: a blade curved like a shovel so it carries material, pointed and sharpened like a spade so it slices roots and finds the path of least resistance around a rock. Fiberglass handle, wide foot rest, double-patented blade.
  • Spear Head Spade garden kneeler, a cushioned foam pad with a cut-out carry handle, for planting, weeding, dividing and every other job that happens at ground level.

The spade itself

The blade is tempered carbon manganese steel, 33 percent thicker and 25 percent harder than standard shovel stock, which is where the up to 80% less effort than a standard shovel comes from. It never needs sharpening. Each blade is pre-sharpened at the factory to a 35 degree bevel along the entire edge, tip to tail, and the powder coat is designed to wear away gradually, continually exposing that factory edge. The more you use it, the sharper it gets.
