About this plant
Alocasia 'Regal Shield' is a hybrid elephant ear with large, glossy, shield-shaped leaves in a green so dark it reads almost black, traced with pale veins. Held high on upright stems, the leaves make it a real statement plant.
Give it bright, indirect light and warmth, and keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Like most alocasias it can drop a leaf or two in winter and push out fresh ones in spring, so a slower spell is normal.
Choose a 4 or 6 inch pot. It suits someone who wants a bold, architectural plant and is happy to give it a bright, warm spot.
The ASPCA lists Alocasia as toxic to cats and dogs, so keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.
From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
