About this plant

String of turtles grows tiny, round leaves no bigger than a fingernail, each one patterned in dark green and silver veins like a little turtle shell. The leaves line fine stems that trail over the edge of the pot.

Bright, indirect light keeps the pattern crisp and the stems full. The leaves hold some water, so let the top of the soil dry before watering and never leave it soggy. It appreciates a little humidity and a pot with good drainage.

It is a small, slow grower, ideal for a hanging pot, a high shelf or a terrarium where the strands can spill down. Trimmed pieces root easily in damp soil.

The ASPCA lists Peperomia prostrata as non-toxic to cats and dogs.

From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
