About this plant
Aloe vera grows thick, fleshy, blue green leaves edged with soft teeth, arranged in a neat rosette. It is one of the most familiar succulents and one of the easiest to keep on a sunny windowsill.
Give it as much light as you can: a south or west window is ideal, and it enjoys a summer outdoors in a sunny spot. Water deeply, then let the soil dry out completely before watering again; in winter that may be only once a month. A gritty cactus mix and a pot with a drainage hole keep the roots healthy.
Healthy plants send up pups around the base that you can separate and pot up. A simple, sculptural plant for the kitchen or a bright desk.
The ASPCA lists aloe (Aloe barbadensis) as toxic to cats and dogs, so keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.
From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
