About this plant

The Hindu rope hoya grows thick, waxy leaves that curl and twist so tightly along each stem that the vines look like braided green rope. With age and good light it blooms with round clusters of pink, star-shaped flowers.

Give it bright, indirect light. The leaves store water, so let the soil dry out between waterings, and water less in winter. It likes to be a little snug in its pot. Leave old flower spurs on the stems, since new blooms form there again.

It is a slow, steady grower that looks best hanging, where the ropes can dangle. Long lived and low maintenance, it is a plant you can keep for decades.

The ASPCA lists the Hindu rope plant (Hoya carnosa) as non-toxic to cats and dogs.

From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
