About this plant
The jade plant grows plump, glossy, oval leaves on thick stems that thicken over time into a miniature tree. In strong light the leaf edges can blush red. It is one of the longest lived houseplants and is often passed down through families.
Give it bright light, ideally with a few hours of direct sun. Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry and let it drain; wrinkled leaves mean it is thirsty, soft ones mean too much water. A gritty cactus mix and a heavy pot help keep it upright as it grows.
It grows slowly and can be pruned and shaped like a bonsai. Leaves and cuttings root easily, so one jade can become many.
The ASPCA lists the jade plant (Crassula) as toxic to cats and dogs, so keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.
From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
