About this plant
String of bananas trails long stems lined with small, curved leaves shaped like little bananas. It grows faster and is more forgiving than string of pearls, so it fills a pot and spills over the edge quickly.
Give it bright light; some direct sun is fine. Water when the soil is completely dry, then let the pot drain. The leaves store water, so it handles a skipped watering better than wet soil.
Choose a 4 or 6 inch pot. It looks best in a hanging pot or on a high shelf where the strands can hang freely, and long strands can be trimmed and rooted to fill out the pot.
The ASPCA lists Senecio species as toxic to cats and dogs, so keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.
From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
