About this plant

Long, slender leaves with rippled edges are marked with dark green ovals over a lighter green, and the undersides are a deep purple. Like other calatheas, the leaves lift and fold a little in the evening and open again in the morning.

It is one of the more forgiving calatheas. Medium to bright, indirect light is ideal; direct sun bleaches and scorches the leaves. Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy, and give it extra humidity if your air is dry. If leaf edges turn brown, switch to filtered or rain water.

It grows into a full, upright clump about 2 feet tall, a good size for a side table or a plant stand.

The ASPCA lists Calathea as non-toxic to cats and dogs.

From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
