About this plant

The parlor palm grows slender stems topped with soft, feathery fronds, a graceful palm in a size that fits real rooms. It has been a favorite indoor palm since Victorian parlors, which is how it got its name.

Unlike most palms it is comfortable in low to medium, indirect light, and direct sun can scorch it. Water when the top inch of soil is dry and let the pot drain. Brown frond tips usually point to dry air, so a spot near other plants or a little extra humidity helps.

It grows slowly, staying compact for years, so the small sizes work on a tabletop and the larger ones on the floor beside a chair.

The ASPCA lists the parlor palm (Chamaedorea elegans) as non-toxic to cats and dogs.

From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
