About this plant

The dragon tree grows woody canes topped with tufts of narrow, spiky leaves, each one edged in a thin line of red. It has a clean, architectural shape that suits modern rooms and pairs well with softer, leafy plants.

Medium to bright, indirect light is best, though it tolerates lower light and simply grows slower. Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry. It is sensitive to fluoride and salts in tap water, which show up as brown leaf tips, so filtered or rain water helps.

It grows slowly upward over the years and rarely needs repotting. Lower leaves drop naturally as it grows, which shows off the canes.

The ASPCA lists the dragon tree (Dracaena marginata) as toxic to cats and dogs, so keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.

From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
