About this plant

The shark fin snake plant, also called whale fin, grows one or a few very broad, paddle-shaped leaves in deep green with lighter mottling. Where most snake plants are narrow swords, this one stands up like a fin.

It handles low light and grows faster in brighter spots. Water sparingly, only when the soil is completely dry, and less still in winter. Too much water is the main thing that troubles it.

Choose a 4 or 6 inch pot. It grows slowly and keeps its sculptural shape, which makes it a striking gift and an easy plant for a desk, a hallway or an office.

The ASPCA lists the snake plant as toxic to cats and dogs, so keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.

From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
