About this plant
The Christmas cactus grows arching stems made of flat, scalloped segments, and in late fall and winter it covers the tips with bright, tubular flowers. Choose red or white, or the larger bicolor pot. It is not a desert cactus at all; it is a forest plant with no spines.
Give it bright, indirect light and water when the top inch of soil is dry. To encourage blooms, give it cool nights and long, dark evenings in the fall, away from lamps. Once buds form, keep its spot steady; sudden moves can make buds drop.
With simple care it blooms year after year and can live for decades. A classic holiday gift, and an easy one to keep.
The ASPCA lists the Christmas cactus as non-toxic to cats and dogs.
From November to April, we recommend adding Winter Plant Shipping Protection (a heat pack) at checkout. Plants shipped in cold weather without it are not covered for cold damage.
